Flashback Remake Announced for XBLA and PSN
The original Flashback was one of my favorite video games to play when I was growing up and now Ubisoft is rekindling those memories with an HD remake on XBLA and PSN.
This Unreal-powered version is being developed by the French Studio VectorCell (Amy) and the original Flashback’s lead designer, Paul Cuisset.
It will be released on XBLA and PSN in 2013, Ubisoft has confirmed. The story will remain largely the same, with gameplay and graphics getting big makeovers. Protagonist Conrad B. Hart will still be running, jumping, and shooting his way through a story about alien invasion, game shows and corrupt police. However, he’ll now have an experience system, gear to pick up, and sections of the story will be expanded.
In an interview with Polygon, Ubisoft’s Guillaume Da Costa Vieira said “We wanted to stay true to the roots and to respect the original spirit of the game because, for us — the team and the fans — respecting the core value of the game was very important, at the same time, we looked at what we could do to improve the game.”
For those who don’t know, Flashback originally released for the Amiga back in 1992 and later onto the Sega Mega Drive/Genesis and SNES. You can check out a debut trailer below.
