Sony Set to Unveil New Gran Turismo Next Week
Gran Turismo 6 could be with us sooner than expected. It appears that Sony is close to announcing the next installment in the series when they “provide an update on the future of the Gran Turismo game” next week.
Taking place at the famous Silverstone Circuit raceway on May 15th, Gran Turismo’s series designer and producer Kazunori Yamauchi will be present to not only disclose new information, but to celebrate the 15th anniversary of the series, which released in Europe on May 8th, 1998.
“The Gran Turismo franchise continues to be extremely important to PlayStation,” said Sony Computer Entertainment Europe president Jim Ryan. “We felt that 15 years of GT was an event worth celebrating along with our colleagues from the Americas, Asia and Japan. We are very grateful to our manufacturer partners for helping us to bring together a fantastic event. As well as experiencing the development of the franchise and comparing the virtual and real, it will be a pleasure to see Yamauchi-san and hear what’s next for Gran Turismo.”
We first heard of Gran Turismo 6 back in 2010 when Yamauchi confirmed that development had begun, and later when Polyphony was photographing locations for the game.
Given the timing of the event and taking into consideration Gran Turismo 5‘s extended development cycle, my bet is that the next entry in Polyphony Digital’s driving simulation series will be announced for the PlayStation 4. But there is also speculation that this could be a reworked edition of Gran Turismo 5, compatible with the upcoming PS4. Lets just hope that the this is not the previously mentioned Vita version.
Until then, check out the trailer Sony released for the event, which showcases some of the classic action we’ve seen throughout the years.
