Company president Satoru Iwata announced today at Nintendo Direct, that the SNES classic EarthBound will arrive on the Wii U Virtual Console later this year.
Released in 1995 toward the end of the SNES’s run in North America, EarthBound (known as Mother 2 in Japan) plays like a traditional Japanese RPG. It instantly became a cult-classic, and fans have been clamoring for a re-release of the game since the Virtual Console released, but licensing rights over music in the game prevented the English version from coming to Wii.
Iwata promised that more information on EarthBound‘s Virtual Console debut will emerge in the coming months.
