In a new Nintendo Direct video announcement today, Nintendo revealed another massive list of news for its Nintendo 3DS. Here’s everything that happened all in one place.
A new top-down Zelda set in the world of The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past will be released in North America in Holiday 2013. This new game will feature an interesting game mechanic where our hero Link will be able to morph into a two-dimensional drawing. The chalk-drawn ability will allow him to walk through cracks in walls and sidle across precarious ledges.
After a 6 year hiatus, the third installment in the beloved Yoshi’s Island franchise is making its way to Nintendo 3DS. Yoshi and Baby Mario are back with flutter jumps, ground pounds and egg throws, plus a host of new actions that use the unique features of Nintendo 3DS. We have no release date but Iwata says the company will reveal more about the game, including its title and possible release date window, in the future.
Mario and Luigi are teaming up once again in Mario & Luigi: Dream Team. Taking place on Hiro Island, where Mario and many others have been invited for a peaceful sightseeing trip. As expected, things are going quite well until the Princess is kidnapped by a mysterious force that pulls her into the dream world. Once again, it’s up to Mario to save the day, but he’s going to need Luigi’s help.
The game will see Mario moving in and out of two separate worlds. When Luigi takes a snooze on his special pillow in the real world a portal will appear above his head. This portal acts as Mario’s gateway into the dream world.
Nintendo says the the real world will feature co-op battles with unique 3D visuals, where players will control both Luigi and Mario. When Mario enters the dream world, players will interact with a sleeping Luigi on the bottom screen to make changes in the dream world on the top screen. As expected, the dream world will have Mario doing some pretty strange things with Luigi. One example showed Mario standing on top of a giant ball of Luigis as it rolled through the stage.
Mario & Luigi Dream Team will be available at retail and in the 3DS eShop on August 11th.
The Big N also revealed some new hardware – a special edition “Animal Crossing: New Leaf” 3DS XL bundle will be available at the game’s launch.
At first glance the new 3DS XL looks like it only sports a shiny new Animal Crossing inspired color scheme job, but Nintendo has done a bit more than apply a fresh coat of paint. The unit includes a 4GB SD card with the upcoming Animal Crossing: New Leaf pre-installed.
The Animal Crossing 3DS XL bundle will be available beginning June 9th and will be priced at $219.99.
