2013 European Nintendo Direct: The Year Of Luigi
Nintendo has named 2013 the “Year of Luigi,” thanks to the numerous appearances that Mario’s often-overshadowed twin brother will be making in games this year.
Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon launches March 24 and will include additional multiplayer modes beyond the previously revealed Hunter Mode. Up to four players with their own Nintendo 3DS systems can team up via local wireless, pair up in Download Play or connect over the Internet to escape each floor within the time limit in Rush Mode and search for the hidden ghost dogs in Polterpup Mode.
Mario & Luigi: Dream Team is a new installment in the Mario & Luigi handheld role-playing series. We jumped inside Bowser with Mario and Luigi: Bowser’s Inside Story and now it looks like little brother Luigi’s is where their next adventure will take our Italian plumbers. The game sees Mario literally jumping into Luigi’s dreams to battle multiple foes, while messing with Luigi’s face to solve puzzles — pull his mustache to make him flinch, or tickle noes to induce a Mushroom Kingdom-shaking sneeze. It is coming to Nintendo 3DS this summer.
Finished playing through New Super Mario Bros. U but longing for more levels? Nintendo has heard your cries. Nintendo is letting Luigi take over in new downloadable content that that provides alternate versions of the game’s more than 80 stages. Players can freely change between the New Super Luigi U and New Super Mario Bros. U stages. These Luigi-focused stages provide a whole new level of game-play challenge and will be available for purchase as a single download. Because of the impressive size of the bundle, development will apparently take some time but the company asserted that New Super Luigi U would be available to download sometime later this year.
The next version of Mario Golf will be hitting the Nintendo 3DS this summer. The Nintendo 3DS entry will include all of the hole-in-one action of previous entries, across both traditional style golf course and classic Mushroom Kingdom-inspired courses. So far, the roster of playable characters includes Mario, Luigi, Wario, Waluigi, Bowser and everyone’s favorite digital ape, Donkey Kong. Of course it’s not too far-fetched to assume the Princess and some other characters will show up, but we’ll have to wait for Nintendo’s confirmation before that’s set in stone. There aren’t a whole lot of details just yet, but Nintendo said that the game includes “simple controls and a deeper experience for golf fans.”
